Every company is in search of a competitive edge. In particular, some companies are looking for ways to improve their operational efficiency while lowering operational costs. To realize this potential, a company might look to external technologies. Indeed, there are numerous examples of industrial organizations making good use of digital solutions. But understanding what these solutions are and how they can be advantageously integrated into an organization can be tricky. In this article, we explore some findings on industrial BIM solutions available from systems integrators. Our conclusion is that there is a wealth of potential for this technology in the industrial sector, but that organizations who invest heavily in this area risk missing out on significant quality-of-service improvements.
